With the close of summer in Juneau, the garden path that winds through the Irene and Anne Shima Memorial Garden at the Bridge Adult Day Facility was finally paved.    "The garden has been changing and developing for the last two years, and this is the culminating event. We are so happy to have the path paved, as it will be much more accessible and safe for everyone to enjoy," said Mary Miller, program supervisor of the Bridge.

Miller took up the challenge of seeking funds to cover the cost of the paving project, and was well-rewarded.  We are very grateful for the generous contributions from Roger and Lee Kolden, Debbi and Fred Howard, Noel Shima, Melinda Cavanaugh, and the Mendenhall Flying Lions Club, all of which helped the project move to completion.

Many of the trees, bushes and plants in the garden were donated over the years, too.  "When spring comes, we all enjoy watching things bud and bloom and come to life," said Miller.  "Every day there is something new to observe, and many of the program participants love to garden. It is a wonderful asset to the Bridge's adult day programming."
